Man - it was an amazing day for Minnesota outdoor track and field. We rarely have an over 70 degree day in April and sunny, too. My sense of whimsey came out a bit with the pictures this week, hope you find them interesting.

It was a glorious sunny day, not as warm as I thought it would be though. By the time I left around 7 p.m. my feet were really icey. But, still it was sunny and the teams did great. I did figure something out though. Last week I thought the trouble with my shots was because gray days are always hard to shoot. The light is unexpected and there are few shadows so focusing gets challenging. No such excuses for this meet, but you will see that the first shots are pretty crummy. Well, I had purchased my first off brand lens and after messing with it for the first hours of the meet, I realized that it just doesn't seem to link to my camera properly for setting aperture and shutter speed. It wants to let in way too much light. I got it used on ebay, so it may be broken. But, you can see that the shots gradually got better. Ultimately, I just switched to setting both manually like I had to do 40 years ago when I got my first SLR camera. Once I did that, I realized that there is a really good thing about this lens - it does actually track runners as they come towards me and stays in focus. I guess I will keep it.
As always, please send pictures. gophertrackshots@hotmail.com
If anyone went to Arizona, I would love to post your shots.

April 4 - Hamline Invite Hamline University

Man - it was cold! I remember last year for this meet when it was so warm and sunny in St. Paul and so cold for the traveling team in Eugene Oregon. Ah well, it was still a great day. Thanks to all the fans for coming. I got to meet some of the athletes for the first time, so that is always good. It is difficult because so many of you are listed as "unattached."
If anyone got pics from Auburn, please send them to me.
Well - Spring will eventually come with warmth and sunshine. See you again, soon.
